NEVER NEVER MIND©
TIMELESS
it is the day after yesterday
and surely the TV remote has too many buttons
the future is something to think about
technologists vaunt their expertise
a list of achievements fills many books
we are the beneficiaries
also of baneful effects unintended
and face a Pandorian cornucopia of more yet to come
white coats, suits, buttoned smocks and casual shirts
assure us
it is best to accept this bounty
while those in robes offer tickets to paradise
people who have spare time
who say forget it
none of this really matters
which is true
as far as truth goes
our most revered elder
cannot say who is in control
trees shed leaves
and so?
people shed tears
I do believe
privately perhaps
to avoid censure
no one has the experience
or can comprehend the situation
so I recommend a fresh look
to see just what is happening
beyond computation or tradition
on the day before tomorrow
BANKING ON REALITY
in this world of trees, mosquitoes and traffic jams
a great peace descends
not in opposition
but simply as the overall fact
though unasked
can one be ungrateful?
history is irrelevant
deeds, heroes, martyrs and villains
gone
strivings of millennia realized in an instant
without mortgage
free of debt
gratitude?
yet in itself a debt
gone
all gone completely
and no one to take credit
a balance that comes to nothing
this peace is spontaneous laughter
trees, mosquitoes, Jack in the Box
being somehow indistinguishable
here on this clipboard
symbols dance
heritage of forgotten ancestors
cornice stones, grand stairways, plinth patter
laughing stock
trees, traffic, aurora borealis
meteorites
solar flares
ocean conveyor belt down for maintenance
Icelandic volcanoes take the rap
for melting ice caps
ice cubes clink
won't there be a final chord
tonic strong in the dominant key
sine and Pi stone
youthful dreams and headaches
dandelion fluff
a song of cats and horses
tossed to a summer wind
TAKE THE "B" TRAIN
if you wondered
what's all the excitement about, so noisy
on the sidelines
hoping the cheerleaders got everything they hoped for
but not you
first of all
majority rules
might is right
no point in getting beat up
for what
since no one seems to care about an invisible nothing
that will not go away
and you don't know what it is anyway
it's sort of like being a Jew in Hitler's Germany
maybe Work Makes Freedom after all
blood, sweat and tears
join the Party
yet still . . .
it won't go away
won't leave you alone
but to avoid being all alone
why not drift with the crowd
that certainly is easy
the crowd wants this
it wants that
dance the switcheroo
ending up with cold feet
nothing to lose so
back to what won't go away
it never was a secret
just rather rare
WHAT?
silence
WHAT?
silence
more silence
then suddenly
THIS AND THAT
gone
and then
that is me . . .
that is me . . .
that is me . . .
silence
these words don't know what
and you are not alone
silence
stick with it
