The porch remembers an inscription of the spider's web, gripping small pieces of leaves. On the table, in a small bowl, is the sugar Easter egg decorated for Halloween, and through its glassine viewing port another inscription can be seen.
It has not forgotten the sound of rain. There had been a hat playing in the breeze which had barked at a sundial, then wagged a tail. A golden retriever. The happy dog without hesitation leaving its hypothetical master on a park bench reading a book.
Rain will fall soon, the hypothetical owner reads, within a few days. A construction crane's latticed boom dangles over the imagined landscape. Pen and paper will be needed.
Sketchy details are all that's left, outsourced through the pen. It's just a framework but still, a few clamberers over remnants. The crane swings around dangling a refrigerator. The pen, almost invisible in clouds of dust, dodges. In fact, it eludes a sidewalk superintendent. The Google dots fail to connect.
From there it's smooth sailing over the interior. People looking for a ladder get a glimpse inside the egg:
sunflower piroshki
dimpled apples
behold Atlantis!
The porch remembers summer, scorched earth in the wine country, a lonely landscape flecked with the bright colors of returning survivors. Realities hard to fuse. Such a happy dog that had displayed no hesitation . . .
