SOFARIŠ

when the sidewalk was young

an inscription appeared:

NIRVANA  HOLE

next to a sprinkler head

on Thunderbird Avenue

graffiti for the ages maybe

or to outlast tattoos

high school kids doing PE jog over it

climate change

the next great quake

World War III

whatever

around the corner and over a block

at the driveway to apartments

on Wood Duck Avenue:

PAT  JOHN  DON

on a slab next to our patio:

LARRY

9-3-62

with two childish handprints

legible only when dampened

maybe this area will be declared BLIGHTED

plenty of eager investors around

property rights might be reassigned

uprooting neighborhood monuments like graves

with less due regard

(lacking a treaty or casinos)

than for an Indian burial ground

The King's Highway

which rolled over the Indians

may finally live up to its pretension

but hey!

the times they are a changin'

paying not much attention

(do they ever?)
